Putin's Palace

Check out these digs being built for Vladimir Putin in southern Russia.  And he isn't even a Romanov.
This source says the money is "donated" by Russian businessmen.  Part of the price for not being "investigated" by  the tax police like Khodorkovsky?

  1. On the bright side it did keep a bunch of construction workers employed. But I'm sorry Putin's tastes run equal to Rush Limbaughs'.

  2. Contrary to Demeur's disappointment, I find it refreshing that tacky people have similar tastes. Or maybe I just like to imagine Rusgh as some odd Russian implant deposited here years ago to stir our pot.

  3. The only similar building I have seen is the Livadia Palace in Yalta, summer home of Nicholas II and site of the Big Three conference during the war. Livadia or the White Palace as it is sometimes known is pretty small and simple compared with this place.
"Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias" may have a new dynasty to assume the mantle.

  4. Reminds me of the Vanderbilt mansion on the Hudson in Hyde Park, New York, but not quite so cold and sterile. Putin's apparently into warmer colors than American financiers were.
