Free at Last or a Lazy Day With No Guilt

Yesterday, I finished a report that had been hanging over my head for a long time.  I put a real push on it last week or so which is why I have not read any blogs nor written any.  If I am at the computer, I needed to work, I told myself.

Mostly the report was trend analysis of agriculture and livestock production over 15 years.

  • 1 country
  • 1 state
  • 2 counties,
  • 20 municipalities
  • 4 species of livestock
  • 4 livestock products
  • 20 field crops - area and production
  • 10 fodder crops - area and production
  • 40 vegetables - area and production
  • 30 fruits and nuts - area and production
  • 2 main sources of data which did not always agree
  • 2 sub-sources whose data did not always agree from year to year
Do the math, I am tired of it, but it comes to millions of numbers, I expect.  Feels like it anyhow.  Boiled it down to 185 pages, 100 tables and 150 figures.  Tomorrow I talk to the client.

100 tables, many larger, a few smaller
150 figures, many more complex than this
Now I can go and catch up on my blog reading.

We have been out of Scotch for two weeks but I can live with that.  The last of the coffee went this morning.  I will likely die.

  1. Can I send you coffee or will it get confiscated in the mail?

  2. Thanks so much but we are fine. It is my own fault we are out as I forgot to tell Tanya to buy some. I just need my coffee in the morning is all. As a Norwegian, you obviously understand the need for coffee. We have to go to town for groceries tomorrow. Then both whiskey and coffee will be replenished. A friend from Arkansas once offered to fax me a bottle of Scotch on the second Tuesday of the following week.

  3. You are out of scotch? Now that is indeed a tragedy. Sounds like two fingers with one cube to cut the heat would be just what the doctor ordered. ..... Well, maybe not your doctor, but I am sure you could find one somewhere who would prescribe some scotch. Especially if you shared.

  4. Tomorrow will remedy that situation. No ice in Ukraine except in restaurants unless I make it. No one uses it for anything. And no one to share with. At the table, which is the only time people drink, it seems, I drink vodka. If you are going to simply throw it down the hatch, it is a shame to waste good Scotch.

  5. Oh, no! More coffee, STAT! That sounds like a huge brain-bending research project.

I realize I'm a freak, but I like reading agricultural statistics and your report sounds interesting. What happened in 2010 to cause such a huge jump in the animal numbers?

    1. Bad drought in 2007 across the country. Drove feed prices sky high and resulted in a tremendous drop in livestock numbers. My area of interest did not suffer as badly as others. Shortage of meat and rising incomes double meat prices over night and herds and flocks responded immediately. I find the year over year jump in numbers hard to believe but certainly two or three years later the numbers are right.

    2. And before you ask, the sharper rise in milk production over cattle numbers was the payoff for investment in genetics and fodder production.

    3. Cool. Amazing what a dramatic change that was!

  6. I keep a can of coffee ahead, as soon as a can is empty the backup is opened and on the next trip to the store the backup can is restocked. Coffee has to be imported, wonder how long it has been in that country, 200 years?

    1. We usually have a package or two ahead but I had not been to town with Tanya for groceries and forgot to ask her. Europe has had coffee since forever but they drink it like cognac in tiny amounts. Good coffee if they would just give you a decent mug full.
