The whole world is talking about the 17 minute speech our Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered at Davos and justifiable so. He got a standing ovation, the third one in the history of Davos. the other two being Nelson Mandela and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Canada is seen as the new leader of the free world. PM Carney said what others thought but wouldn't say. We have separated ourselves from America and are making some 19 alliances with other middle powers. We also signed a trillion dollars worth of trade deals with China and now with development billions from Dubai.
To tht end, I have collected a few memes about our great country.

Frankly, I've scavenged for Timbits myself. Hey, I'm not proud. I see your weather forecast is similar to ours in Edmonton. Effin polar vortex!
ReplyDeleteColder than a mother in laws kiss. I saw two jack rabbits trying to jump start a coyote.
DeleteCanada seems to be living high on the hog now. And that is excellent. But I wonder if Canada is about to fall into the trap of their own making by cozying up to the wrong kind of friends. Dubai comes to mind. Makes me wonder if, in a few years, the only thing that will seperate Canada from the old USA will be our border.
ReplyDeleteI do not understand our dal with Dubai. If we can keep it at arms length, it will be a first.
DeleteI am ashamed of this Trump government. As the US slides into the autocracy predicted in Orwell's 1984, we can only apologize to Canada and the rest of the NATO alliance for allowing the inmates to take over the asylum. History has recorded the downfall of many empires occurring at 250 year intervals, destroyed by the apathy of the people and the corruption of the leaders. I am afraid we are at the advent of the nullification of our constitutional government. I am unable to explain where we are now, but I love Canada.

Thank you. Can Canada escape being dragged under as the US disintegrates? I think if anyone can prvnt it, Carney is the person. But I do worry
DeletePriceless, you continue to produce column that speak volumes when the occasion demands.
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason why Der Fuhrer is so big on crypto currency, even going so far as to invent his own (properly known as the "Fleece"). Makes the path of dirty money hard to trace, as in financing right-wing pro American movements in vulnerable countries such as Venezuela, Greenland or ALBERTA!
I do think Carney has "belled" the cat, as in the old fable.
Blair
Carney certainly called it. He is still all over my social media. I do not understand how crypto curency works or how it is "mined" at great cost in energy. To me it is so much bullshit andf I agree that it makes dirty money hard to track but unless it can be changed into Recognizeable currency, dollars, Rupees, or Yuan what use is it in the long run?
DeleteI think Carney's speech in Davos was spot-on, and the world would do well to listen to what he says. The current prez listened and didn't like what he heard so now Canada is un-invited to his Peace initiatives. So much revenge, retribution, blackmail and spite. The contrast between Carney's speech and the prez's puerile effort is so obvious.
