Trying to blog or actually do anything this past week has been difficult but at least I didnt go back to chewing my fingernails. Or drinking, as I am too cheap to guzzle booze at Canadian prices.
Of course Trump has declared himself the winner and at first glance it does appear to be the case. However with record voter turnout and 20 million missing ballots, it aint over until the fat man is in jail.
The media all act like voting was normal but Kamala Harris was not only running against Trump, she was runing against decades of Republican voter suppresssion. That didn't seem news worthy when results were being reported.
She is wise not to concede. Counting is not complete and recounting has not even begun.
Just read that she conceded. Like Gore in 2000
AAARGH.
ReplyDeleteThat about sums it up, EC
DeleteI've been remembering Gore a lot the past little while and how he and the Democrats did not contest the 2000 election's "hanging chads" issue in court. What a marked contrast to Trump with his lying allegations about the 2020 election. Of course, Democrats respect the constitutional foundations of American democracy. Trump and MAGA do not, and are systematically engaged in discrediting them in order to create a legitimation crisis to undermine American institutions.
ReplyDeleteI have a few questions about the count. Where did 18,000,000 votes go?
DeleteI was Hopeful that we'd be on the Right side of History. Personally I do think people's biases got in the way, when they'd rather have a career Criminal Sexual Predator in serious cognitive decline be their Leader, than a strong, intelligent Woman.
ReplyDeleteSays a great deal about American men and women, doesn't it?
DeleteIndeed it does, the only Demographic that overwhelmingly Voted for Kamala was Black Women, over 90%, the rest will now have to Own what they have done. Sadly, those of us who Voted for her will suffer alongside the ignorant who installed him, or those too apathetic to bother to Vote at all. To me, any who Voted him in deserve whatever comes down upon them, and those who didn't Vote at all are complicit as well. I Blame every single one of them. The sad thing is, most Americans are struggling, yet far too many lack even a rudimentary grasp of Economics, so they Imagine it all works differently than it does. Ignorance isn't Bliss, it's just ignorance.
DeleteExpecting the greatr unwashed to understand the subtle nuances of economics is wishing for too much, especially when they are drownwed out by right wing media with simple sound bites.
DeleteI think H L Mencken speaks to the moment: "As democracy is perfected, the office of the president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
ReplyDeleteHe understood the human animal
Delete"No one in this world, so far as I know ... has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people." Mencken, H. L. (1926 September 19) “Notes on Journalism”, in Chicago Tribune
I had a sinking feeling that Trump would come out on top. And I was right, unfortunately. Too many people wearing red MAGA hats on my TV screen.
ReplyDeleteI leaned on my left leg in the parking lot dirt,
DeleteKathy was closing the lights
A Junebug flew from the warmth it once knew
And I wished for once I weren't right. John Prine Far from Me
Not thrilled how our election came out.
ReplyDeleteI think only the MAGAts are thrilled. The rest who voted for Trump will have buyers remorse soon enough
