  2. Gee, the classics we missed by not having a TV...

    1. Hee Haw ran from 1969 to 1985. Even Interlake had TV by then.

    2. When I lived at home, the TV was in my parents' bedroom and we were allowed a strictly limited amount of TV-watching time which didn't include Hee Haw (I'd never even heard of it). When I moved to university residence in 1982 I couldn't afford a TV and didn't have space for one anyway. In 1986 my first boss was horrified to discover I didn't own a TV, and he gave me an old one of his. Nearly a year later I tried to turn it on for the first time to watch a Remembrance Day program, only to discover the TV didn't work... I'm such a freak. ;-)

    3. maybe a oddity in this world but you have such a wonderful imagination and have rebelled so nicely against your "Mennonite" upbringing.

  3. Sure, blame the northwoods bumpkin! A friend and I actually did several verses of this for a friend's wedding reception. It takes practice to keep a straight face.

    1. Hee Haw ran for 16 years so there had to have been a fair number of verses. Writing them would have been fun. I imagine you brought the house down at the wedding. Yes, it must be sung as a dead serious country love song to be really funny.
