Gentle Rant on Anti-Vaxxers

It is quite frustrating for people who are vaccinated and try to follow the rules to keep others safe, to see so much energy wasted by people to avoid the vaccine, mask, and safe distancing. It is mucking up lives and the economy.

An state rep from BareFlanks Alaska has been banned from flying Alaska Airlines for being obstreperous so she has been unable to get to Juneau to sit in the legislature. She now has Covid and is treating herself at home with Vicks Vapo Rub and Ivermectin.

A relative in the States, her husband, and husband's family, good Republican Jesus Christians all, have Covid. The parents are not young. I have not heard how they are doing. Or if their daughter has it.

UPDATE Oct 17: The father-in-law died two days ago. Mother-in-law and husband were hospitalized briefly but will recover. Relative had a mild case and is fine, daughter is worn out from looking after all of them. Dying for one's unbeliefs.

Tanya and I, being old, are taking any precautions we can. Last Oct we took a taxi to Dnipro to get a pneumonia vaccination and wouldn't even stop for my McDonald's fix. In November, Tanya purchased flu vaccine and administered it to both of us. In June we got both Pfizer shots. We still mask up in shops and such.

I should not feel too smug. I resisted a mumps vaccine for years as I was too lazy to go and get it. Reasoning? We had four kids and owned a wheelbarrow. When we sold the wheelbarrow, I went and got my shot.

Flu vaccine, the same. Resisted for years as I could not be bothered. Then I got the flu. Tanya and I were sick for two weeks a few years back. That's when we started looking for a vaccine source in Zhovti Vody. Hard to find then. Got my first shot in Canada in 2018 because I did not want anything to interfere with my scheduled surgeries and I wanted to go home. Since then it is available at some of our pharmacies but they do not inject it, just sell it.

Too soon old and too late smart. Don't be like me.

Do not spend any time doing "research". It's all been done. Avoid YouTube. It is the only place you will learn that more people have died from the vaccine than from Covid. No one knows anyone who has actually died. It is always "my mechanic's third cousin's aunt's daughter's boyfriend's sister knows someone.

A former FB friend sent me a link to a video of a doctor addressing the Texas Senate. As If.

There have been people who had reactions as to any vaccine. Of the millions of doses administered, the severe reactions are a very miniscule percentage compared to the sickness and deaths of the unvaccinated.

Get vaccinated, and mask up. Protect yourself and others who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

    1. Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
The height of stupidity is most clearly demonstrated by the individual who ridicules something he knows nothing about.
Three great forces rule the world: stupidity, fear and greed.
There is no vaccine against stupidity.
It may be possible to fight intolerance, stupidity, and fanaticism separately, but when they come together there is no hope.

  2. If they weren't endangering others with their willful stupidity, it would be fine with me if all the anti-vaxxers never got vaccinated. Unfortunately, despite God calling home some of the most vocal and high profile opponents of vaccination, the mortality rate among the idiots is still too low to make much of a dent.

    1. Telling them that vaccines and masks protect others is of no use. They do not care about others. Not thinning the gene pool fast enough. Vaccination is not 100% but sure beats the odds of the unvaxxed.

  3. Sigh.
They are entitled to their opinions (and opinions is what they are). They are NOT entitled to put other people at increased risk. But they do.

  4. Pandemics (Plagues) take out the old, the sick and the stupid. Fortunately we have vaccines to protect the old and sick. This virus will thin the herd of the stupid, strengthen our gene pool.
My wife and I stay home as much as possible. We are vaccinated and wear mask when in public places. We will take the booster when it is available. Young people believe in their invincibility - I am old enough to know I am past my sell-by date, and I don't intend to hurry my demise by stupidity.

    1. Tanya and I will look for a booster in January, 6 mo after our double vaccination. We'll take what we can get as long as it isn't Russian or Chinese.
Young people believe in the three "I's" They think they are invincible, indestructible, and infertile (wisdom from my late wife).
If I am going to hasten my demise doing something stupid it won't be going unvaccinated, it will be bungee jumping off the bridge over Victoria Falls or something.

    2. Good for you, Buzzard!

But younger healthy people also die; I see these go by frequently on Twitter. If you want to get really depressed, drop by @Cleavon_MD's account on Twitter. Covid infections also often lead to disability, sometimes severe. Due to poor reporting and deliberate medical ignorance we don't know how frequently that occurs, but the rate could be as high as 1 victim in three; 1 in 10 seems a not-impossible rate.

    3. Young healthy people dying, long haul recovery, and permanent disability. When Hitler was cleaning up the Aryan gene pool, his list included those with disabilities from the Spanish Flu as they were a drag on the economy. Will the Republicans do the same?

  5. I barely recall polio. I'm 61. But my husband great grand first wife and part of town died from something like Diphtheria. I don't understand people who refuse to get the jab. My area not quite third of people is fully vax. Plus we our covid test result is over 40%. My State Idaho just won "At last, Idaho earns covid distinction"

  6. If brains were dynamite, anti-vaxxers wouldn't have enough to blow their ears off... I just wish that their stupidity wouldn't negatively impact so many children and adults who legitimately cannot get vaccinated!

    1. Endangering other lives, directly or indirectly, is so terrible, even worse is the fact they do not care.

  7. The Unvaxxed will all eventually get it, they will be breeding grounds for future mutations and variants, that is the part that bothers me most. Not whether their Gene Pool gets thinning mercilessly by Natural Selection. Nature rarely suffers Fools and even Animals know enough not to have the most Stupid lead them or they'd all be doomed. I have no Words now for when an Unvaxxed gets COVID, hospitalized, dies... I just Hope they didn't infect slews of innocent victims with their stupidity and poor choices, that's all.

    1. We are not safe until the whole world is vaccinated as you are correct, new mutations will arise and come to bite us.
