New Rules on my Blog

I am tired of dealing with trolls who will not give a name. If I turn off Anonymous comments, only people with a Google account can comment. Do all my commenters have Google accounts? I don't know. People who blog on WordPress?

So I have gone to comment moderation which bugs me no end.

17 comments:

  1. I'm not too thrilled with having to moderate either, but decided it was worth it after going through a spell where a lot of spam from south Asia was showing up. I didn't mind the ads for cheap office space in Bangalore much, but figured my handful of readers didn't need to see the ones for sex workers. That isn't why I began moderating to begin with -- it was to knee cap a couple people who wanted to use the comment thread as a place to bitch about other bloggers -- but it's why I'm still doing it.

  2. We ALL end up doing Comment Moderation eventually. Such are the times we live in. I agree, it's a pain in the ass, but necessary.

  3. I feel for you. I blog on Wordpress, but I comment on your blog using my Google account because Blogger doesn't talk to Wordpress.

That said, Wordpress is pretty good at handling trolls. Maybe once or twice a year a trollish comment sneaks through on my blog, so if you're really sick of it you might try Wordpress. My only issue with them is that their free account puts advertising on your blog, and the only way to get rid of it is to pay CAD$5 per month. Tough choice...

  4. Good luck. I *think* that people with WordPress accounts can continue to comment when you turn off Anonymous, but won't vouch for that.

  5. I've had issue with people who anonymous comments. When I first start blogging I felt people who comment as anonymous is hiding there self and pretty much a fake or something.
Hope this works out for you.

  6. I am assuming that I can comment, I do have a google account but no idea if I am plugged into it. I'm still struggling with the new laptop. I don't think I was cut out for today's technology, especially the way things change so darn fast.
Lots on our News about tension in Ukraine. Stay safe, batten down the hatches, prime the flame thrower.

    1. Read somewhere that people were not designed to deal with too much change, too quickly.

  8. Well, I think I do. Those who need Anonymity I couldn't be bothered with either since it they don't have the Courage to reveal an Identity, they are Suspect IMO to being Cowardly Trolls and Troublemakers.

  10. My apologies for not confirming your comments earlier. I used to get emails when comments came in but this time I didn't. Just checked now and there you all were. Again, sorry.

  11. You had a Ukranian anonymous commenter who you very much liked following one of your December posts, and I'll be sorry not to read his thoughts again. I also moderate comments solely because of the spammers (I'm fine with people insulting me, disagreeing with me, or saying stupid things), but I get more spam comments that aren't from "anonymous," it being a simple thing, I suppose, to set up any number of Google accounts to operate from.

    1. He stopped being interesting and turned into a troll which is why I changed the rules on my blog. If he comes back with a name and email, I will debate him by email only

    2. I'm shocked that the fellow changed from someone who seemed thoughtful and pleasant into someone who was not. You had a good feeling about him, even wondering if he lived near you. I, too, had a good feeling about him based upon the fact that he expressed contradictory beliefs so respectfully. How sad that things didn't work out.

I don't recall you ever saying anything about visiting Canada. I would love it if you would write a post(s) about your feelings for your native country, whether you still have loved ones where, whether you think you might ever visit there again, and so forth. To me, the thought of moving to the other side of the world and living permanently in an alien culture and speaking a language that doesn't, so far as I know, even have its roots primarily in Latin would be unthinkable, and I've often wondered how you were able to pull it off, how the people who you are feel about Canada, how well they accept you as someone who is from far away, and what are the upsides and downsides of your adopted homeland.

    3. I was back in Canada for two years 2017-2019 for health reasons. I am in contact with my kids every day by Whatsapp and most of my friends and relatives via FB Messenger, Email or Skype.
