Day 7, 14 hours in

History lessons can wait as we are making history as I write. Ukraine is holding on. Target cities are being bombed and attacked with rockets unmercifully, targeting civilians with cluster bombs and thermobaric or vacuum bombs. Hospitals, nurseries etc.

The Chechens seem to have been wiped out. Paratroopers have landed in Kharkiv but I do not expect they will survive either. Mariupol is the last link in a land route from Russia to Crimea. It is surrounded and being shelled heavily. I think tanks may already have entered. The long convoy enroute to Kyiv is stalled 20 km out.

Tanya told me that the Russians had gone house to house in a small village and shot 100 people. I expect in retaliation for something. She told me Yanukovych is in Belarus. the intent is to kill all in Kyiv and place Yanukovych as President. He is another Kadyrov so would suit Putin fine.

Once a day I check with our friends in Kyiv. One of our friends has her family safe at their dacha and yesterday went back to check on her apartment. Sheesh!

There may be 600,000 refugees crossing the border to Poland and other countries. Trains are still running. So far as I know, St Sofia's Cathedral, the heart of European culture is still standing, though they plan to destroy it. Hatred and spite are powerful emotions.

I think the MSM is doing not bad of reporting with journalists on the ground though I just read a WAPO article that was hopelessly uninformed of details. See Kyiv Independent for up to date local news reporting.

The anonymous troll who has been harassing me has not gone away. Too cowardly to leave a name. He writes English but seem to have no comprehension of written English. No knowledge of Ukrainian history. Maybe he is part of the St Petersburg troll factory? All I can say to him is what the guys on Serpent Island told the Russian ship. GFY.

  1. All of this, plus a TROLL? Appalling. Everyone supports Ukraine. Even neutral Switzerland has abandoned its neutrality and supports Ukraine. Thinking of you every day and hoping you remain safe.

  2. Thank you so much for the updates and link to reliable info. My heart aches for the unnecessary destruction and suffering Russia is causing Ukraine. It has shaken me to my core beliefs in humanity. In my life I have only truly hated one man, D. Trump. Now I have added V. Putin.

  3. Ukraine is putting up one helluva fight for their country -- Bravo! If only Russian troops would just lay down their arms and refuse to fight. Stay strong and stay safe!

  4. I'm trying to keep up with the news, but it's too awful to contemplate. Your latest news agrees with what we are being told here. One million people have fled over the borders to neighbouring countries. Russia is claiming control of Kherson. The key Ukrainian port city of Mariupol was "near to a humanitarian catastrophe" on Wednesday after more than 15 hours of continuous bombardment by Russian forces, the city's deputy mayor told the BBC. Russian forces had targeted strikes against pump stations and electrical transformers, and there were food shortages in parts of the city - raising fears of an approaching humanitarian crisis.
So many photos of bomb damage and burning buildings.
I hope you and the family are staying safe. What can I do to help?

    1. Find a credible site to donate to the refugees
They have captured Kherson. The dog has caught a car. Now to see if it can drive. it will be interesting. Mariupol is in big trouble. Kharkiv and Kyiv are holding on.

    2. Well, I don't think you will be enjoying the seaside at Berdiansk and looking for my uncle's grave in the near future. I don't know if Berdiansk will still be there!
I see you still have electricity and internet access, hope it continues. I'll definitely donate to helping refugees. Putin is a criminal. All his Russian military cronies are criminals. All those Russian soldiers driving tanks and firing rockats are criminals. I hope their mothers are proud of them. This should not be happening in 2022! A million people leaving their homeland in the face of blatant destruction, I can't imagine the terror.

    3. Ukraine has sent word to Russia that mothers can reclaim their sons who are POWs by coming to Kyiv to get them.

  5. My hope is that someone close to Putin offers him a cup of polonium tea, but as long as he insists on having 20 feet of table between him and anyone else that's not likely to happen.

  6. It is good news to hear the Chechens have been dealt with. I have also picked up a friend who claims to be Ukrainian. I have no reason to not believe them. Anyway, they hooked me up with the official Ukrainian government website relating to the war - war.ukrain.ua - definitely more believable than any news coming out of Russia.

    1. Well, Damn. thanks for that link. I have to smile when they say that the FSB tipped off Ukraine about the Chechens. True or well placed shit stirring doesn't matter to me.

    1. I'm so glad I am not in one of the big cities. It is quiet here though we are blacked out as usual.
The ground war keeps grinding on. Kherson says there is still fighting in the streets though Russia claims they have taken the city

  8. I hope you can stay as safe as possible! The atrocities are so shocking and the destruction we get to see here is so horrific. I also feel significant trepidation about the takeover of the large nuclear power plant. I fear a new, even more devastating Chernobyl.

  9. Surely you know of this site: http://war.ukraine.ua.

I can't find any information about the mass murder you mentioned. I'm very aware that the Russian army is controlled by a psycopathic asshole who wouldn't hesitate to commit ANY atrocity against anyone (like dropping cluster bombs on civilians), but I can't verify that this particular incident happened.

Are you seeing jets or missiles pass overhead? Can you hear artillery? Maybe you've mentioned such things, so I'll go back and catch up.

  10. Thank you for your this post about Ukraine.

    Only.

I would point out -- that there is bigger danger for USA, than it is for my Ukraine.
    Becasue.
Just a day before invasion, nobody was believing it will happen. Because "Putin not that stupid, isn't he?".
    But here it is.

    But for USA.
For decades, they in RFia, was drooling at propaganda of how they would "put America on its knees", how they'll "reduce it to atomic dust"(precisly cited).

So, if Putin THAT stupid to start a war against Ukraine. While that involved millions of people, which could mitigate the danger of it. Like today POW of RFia showing obvious lack of incentive to fight.

    But.
Between Putin... and Big Red Button. There hardly can be many people. And even less of ones who could stop him.
    And.
What if he have terminal desease? What is he gone crazy, in that self-inflicted isolation?
And biggest problem of it all -- what if he not. What if he see that as Perfect Plan... so inability of USA to respond, he sees as proof of his imminent victory?
    Does it impossible to imagine?
But we know such people, with such a mindset.
    Hitler was that way.
All recent dictators and terrorists was that way -- highly reassured that they will win against "weaklings" USA.

And there'd be no Pearl Harbour. As today's weapon allow All-Out attack at USA.

Hope your CIA concidered all pros and cons of it. And devised some smart and decisive move.
    We all hope.

PS Sorry for my blatant bluntness, but I see it as damn important topic to rise.

  11. Each Post is a relief to read you are hanging on. The atrocities are mind blowing and yet, with Vlad, not the least bit surprising. He can't FOAD quick enough, but hopefully in agony, as is fitting for all Evil Men to Die horribly IMO. As for your Troll, GFY is ample engagement.

two week ago, days before it started...
    started talking about Third WW.

Dunno what is good to say in probably last days...
of the world as we know it, for the very least.

At least, it would end our quarrel. :-/
