When I walked the dog today, I wore long jeans, long sleeve sshirt and a bunny hug. I guess it is fall.
A quick catch up on our doings is in order. In April and May I had cataract surgery and in July got new glasses. Not totally happy with them and may get my eyes checked again. (I prefer plaid rather than checked but I digress). My new knee is working fine, doesnt hurt anymore and the surgery frightened the other knee so it doesn't hurt either.
I walk with a cane now as I have neuropathy in both lower legs. That gives me poor balance. So I go tap tap tapping along like Blind Pew. When I walk Lucky I hold the loop of the leash in my right hand with the cane and take up the slack with my left hand. Lucky likes walking along streets as there is much to sniff and mark. We are close to Diefenbaker Park for a long long walk but it is all grass so boring.Tanya planted all her flowers in pots this spring for reasons I will explain. We moved from Regina to Saskatoon in mid-August. My two daughters in Saskatoon bought a lovely house for us and insisted we move. Regina had many advantages and I was reluctant to leave to say the least but the house was too small and the basement stairs too steep so it was time.
Our home in Saskatoon is in a lovely area close to Exibition Park, bound by the freeway, Taylor and Ruth Streets. It is 30 minutes to Gabriel Dumont Park . Tanya and I often take Lucky down to the river. It is a 30 meter climb from water to street level but there is a gravel road with a gradual slope. I still have to rest at the top before I continue on home.
I get my exercise every day walking lucky 2 or 3 km. I have dropped from a 3X to a 2X and it feels good. I am 25 kg lighter than my normal weight.
Some things are within walking distance. Vet Clinic and Critters Pet Store both about 15 minutes, 20 if I take Lucky as he has to sniff of course. Critters does a great job of trimming Lucky's nails.
The bus system here is pretty good once we get used to the routes and the best ways to get anywhere. Number 1 bus stops two blocks from us and goes south to a large mall area with WalMart, Home Depot and several other shops. We are a long way from South Costco which is a disadvantage, but only 40 minutes from Market Mall with one bus chnge. Market Mall has become a medical centre of sorts. They have a walk in for people over 50 which is great. I miss my NP in Regina.
My girls take us places when it is convenient for them and sometimes when it is not, I have to admit. Two days ago we did a $400 shopping trip to Superstore. They found us a small freezer that fits in our basement so we can buy more in bulk than before. We feed them supper when we can and share everything that Tanya cooks with them. Plov and Borsch being two favourites.

Holy moly, man, you've been busy! The move to S'toon sounds great, much better to be close to your daughters. The new house looks wonderful and seems well situated for walking Lucky! Congrats on the weight loss too. I just had my own cataracts removed about 10 days ago, so I'm busy doing the eye drops thing. Won't be able to get my new prescription glasses and be able to drive again until the end of November.
ReplyDeleteIsnt the world bright and white now? That wait for glasses is the hardest. I had 20-20 vision for distance and couldn't read anything
DeleteGlad to see you back but I know all to well the problems of unsteadiness with my Welanders syndrome-maybe a stray viking wandered through the Hingston farm back in the 10th century.
DeleteDon't be afraid to graduate to a walker if taking lucky out for a stroll. In my neighbourhood it is an accident waiting to happen seeing all the old fogeys in no better condition than me out walking their big dogs with the untrained mutts winding the extensible leash around the owners legs.
I'm afraid cataract surgery is the fate of us all, but thank goodness it is available. Sheila will be getting it sometime in the new year - here in BC it is free unless you want the bifocal self focusing lenses-then it is $1700.00. There must be a Scotsman in Sheila's Quebec heritage because she most clearly asserted she could wear glasses for that price.
So far, I have been spared the fate of hearing aids or cataracts in spite of those olden tin can tractor cabs and the solar glare of southern Saskatchewan.
Take care and keep up the blog-it has been a long summer with neither you nor YDG to keep up the sanity quotient on the internet.

I miss YDG so much. And think of how good her blog would be with the Fascist takeover of America. And also how much danger she would be in from MAGAts.
DeleteI have a good walker for winter so I can still Take Lucky out unless the snow is too deep or sidewalks not plowed.
They offered me the high priced lens too and I turned it down. Some days I wished i hadn't.
My husband had Cataract remove end of August and the first part of September. He says the world is a lot brighter.
ReplyDeleteThe light and bright is such a difference. I hope when he gets his new glasses they are perfect for him
DeleteWelcome back! – Raven Onthill
ReplyDeleteThank you. I shall try hard to earn my readership back.
DeleteYour new house is lovely, and the location sounds perfect! Moving is revolting, though; so I sympathize with you for that.
ReplyDeleteYou said the basement stairs in the old place were too steep, but that looks like a fairly steep flight up to your new front door, too. Considering your description of the walk down to the river, I'm guessing you like the challenge. ;-)
I can climb the front steps which are not all that steep, as it has two handrails and I can use my cane. I should send tyou a picture of the steps in the Regina house. I went down backwards hanging on for dear life
DeleteHow nice to see you blogging again! And it sounds like the move to Saskatoon will be a good one for you, Tanya and Lucky.
ReplyDeleteHi, Tundra Bunny. Glad to see you here. We never did connect at the dog park. sorry about that
