Study of the Interconnectedness of Transnationals

Revealed – the capitalist network that runs the world - physics-math - 19 October 2011 - New Scientist

"From Orbis 2007, a database listing 37 million companies and investors worldwide, the Zurich team pulled out all 43,060 TNCs and the share ownerships linking them. Then they constructed a model of which companies controlled others through shareholding networks, coupled with each company's operating revenues, to map the structure of economic power."

  1. Wow. 1318 TNCs.

I think that any of us who even thought about this knew it was so, even if we couldn't draw on specifics. This study proves it is so.

As the article says, having so few companies controlling so much is not necessarily bad or good when referring to just the nuts and bolts of economies, but such a system of inter connectivity is unstable by its very makeup. As evidenced by the global domino effect of a couple years ago. When one fails, they all fail.

All this economic power in so few hands tells me that a future as depicted in "Rollerball" and several other SciFi stories is not only possible, but probable. Corporate rule will replace government rule. If one thinks about it, the World is already well on its way in that direction.

  2. I hope you realize that the bulk of those companies are set up to hide the wealth of a very few. If were ever to open up the coffers of Swiss banks and have an audit what a tax bill there would be.

  3. Had to post that one on Facebook. There may be just a few with the money and power, but the science and math geeks rule the world.
