Her party was at the Egoist Restaurant. They have lots of private rooms along with a big regular area and great food. Nine adults and four kids. The adults ate and drank while the kids played with the gifts, stopping long enough to inhale a piece of pizza or some french fries.
Tania got Dasha to sit on her knee long enough to eat something. I held out my arms and she came to me. She sat on my knee, nestled down in my arms and totally relaxed. Then I said something you NEVER say to a small child at a birthday party. "Are you tired?" She went back to her mom.
Ukrainian culture tends to push traditional gender roles. Dasha played with her toy stove and brought us "food" in the frying pans or dutch ovens, then she played with her baby doll with its own potty, pampers and all. But her favourite toy was a green van with a friction motor. She is her father's daughter and crazy about cars and trucks. Give her a little doll and a truck and she will put the doll in the truck and take it for a drive.
I tend to be counter culture. I bought Masha a crossbow and a slingshot but it was too late to do any good. I think I will buy Dasha a set of John Deere farm equipment and a set of wrenches.

I buy Olivia and Abby trucks and cars and animals..they both like them a lot..they both love to fish too.
ReplyDelete3 year olds are wonderful..Olivia just turned 4 and I got her a mermaid swim bottom and matching bikini top and bottom...in pink...will see her Sunday at the party and see how she likes it.
The mermaid suit sounds cute. With a tail and fins?
DeleteI need to build a sandbox then the cars and trucks will have a place to drive besides the floor. Between the two girls they have enough stuffed animals to bury each other. I wish I had pictures.

ReplyDeleteBoth girls are very pretty, Masha looks like her mom and Dasha like her dad. Masha will be 13 this summer and is a very nice young lady who is so happy to have a sister. They play well together as long as Dasha gets her own way. (Fair is fair as I recall Masha at about the same age).
DeleteAn excellent celebration, and Dasha is lucky to have you! I hope you do buy her the wrenches and teach her how to use them. She'll be thrilled as a kid, and grateful as an adult! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I will have to figure out how she can use them. Maybe glue bolts into a wooden board made into a small bench. Her 2nd cousin in Abakan when he was 2 (now 6) took the wheel nuts off his great grandmother's wheel chair (she had lost a leg to diabetes). When the chair collapsed, he said "Get up, Babushka".
