Update on War in Ukraine

This is just to say we are still here and the lights are still on.

An update under the circumstances will be like a certificate of health for a hooker in Tijuana. Good for 15 minutes and only in the Doctor's office.

Putin's unholy rant last night contained more lies per minute than anything Trump could have done. Trump is an amateur.

Russia has recognized the Donbas Republics to include the entirety of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblast, though they currently control less than one third.

The Russian embassy in Kyiv is burning documents.

Civilians are being evacuated from Donbas to ensure the highways are clear for military use (same was done in Georgia).

The front line is undergoing heavy shelling to try to provoke a Ukrainian response (worked in in Georgia).

Germany has cancelled approval of Nord Stream II. USA has recognized Russian actions as a full invasion and will impose all sanctions.

For up-to-date stuff go to Twitter. I am just learning how to use it so don't know how to send links yet. I will try and see if this works. I am following people whose names I recognize and whose opinions I have read elsewhere and respect.

  1. Fingers crossed for you and Tanya and the rest of the family, although crossing fingers might not do much good at this point in the proceedings. Just know that we are thinking of you and hoping for the best. I have been watching the news. Keep on drinking the whisky, don't let the damn Russians have even a tiny drop.

  5. Haven't blogged for a few years, so haven't been keeping up with blogs I used to follow (such as yours). Since my husband died I managed to do a few years of overseas consultancy work in Laos before Covid, but now I'm re-retired. Just came along here to check if you and your Ukrainian family are OK, and I thought it would be interesting to read your recent posts from the front line! Good luck to you and your family in whatever unfolds.

  12. I've been thinking of you and your family tonight as CBC has reported explosions in Donetsk, Mariupol and Odessa. Sounds like Putin is going for broke and plans to invade all of Ukraine. Stay safe and leave for safer parts while you still can!

    1. yes, it invasion is country wide. Ukraine is fighting back and doing not bad. Lack of air superiority is a big problem of course. The gas stations in town have stopped selling gas saving fuel for a general evacuation if it comes to that.

  13. Oh my, your wicked sense of Humor had The Man and I rolling about the Tijuana Hooker reference, even under heavy stress you are brilliant with the Gallow's Humor my Friend. The Bromance between IQ45 and Putin was evident as they are cut from the same cloth, so the parallels between them is not lost on many. Of coarse in that Union the Orange One was the Puppet Peon and the Murderous One was the Master... perhaps he gave The Grifter Family his Playbook to study and try to implement. I do think Putin is in over his Head, but being a Psychopath he probably is not even considering long term consequences to acting upon his Urges... he so desperately wants to return to the 'Old Days', much like the MAGAts here, and they will destroy everything in their Quest for the Fantasy they have wet dreams about.

    1. My kids will write on my tombstone that I have an inappropriate joke for every occasion. Gallows humor, Stalin said is like Food. Not everyone gets it.
Isn't IQ45 an embarrassment to the whole world? Yes, Putin is trying to recreate both the Russian Empire and Muscovy control over the Warsaw pact countries - just for starters.

  14. "Found" you on LFAA this morning - I hope you and yours (including Lucky) remain safe & well. We here in this country (as you are aware) have been very fortunate to stay untouched (sort of) by wars in other countries. Of course, now we have our own insurrectionists amongst us!
So appreciate your gallows humor - to be able to laugh about the bad stuff is a good thing. Otherwise???
    Take care, Maggie

    1. Thank you. Most of us have no idea how the rest of the world lives - in constant fear for their lives. You have some hard times ahead in America too. I hope our problems are solved by then and you can come here. wonderful country, wonderful people.

  15. From the CBC news today Feb 24 2022:
Last week, the federal government said it had secured escape routes through four neighbouring countries to allow Canadians to evade any Russian military incursion into Ukraine.
Joly's office said the minister has obtained assurances from her counterparts in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia that Canadians fleeing Ukraine will be able to enter without hindrance.
But the most recent travel advice for Canadians in Ukraine warns that the government's ability to provide consular services in Ukraine could become "severely limited" and that Canadians should not rely on the government to help them leave the country.
"If you are in Ukraine, you should shelter in place unless it is safe for you to leave the country," the updated guidance said.
Those who choose to remain should "monitor trustworthy news sources to stay informed on the evolving situation" and follow instructions from local authorities, it said.

    1. If it were just me, I would go but since my family are all Ukrainians that may create some problems. If we do have to run for it, Romania is our closest border
