European Mole Crickets

Tanya has gone out to the garden to spread bait for Medvedka, the European Mole Cricket.  You can get more information here and here. She lost six tomato plants last night and that means WAR.

Wiki says the American ones (imported about 100 years ago) grow from 35 to 45 mm long but Tanya says they get twice that long here and that cats like to catch them.  I don't want to think about it.

  1. Could you keep them a pets? Could you use them for fishing bait?

  3. I'm with Violet on this one. If I saw one I'd be running in the other direction so fast...I am terrified of big bugs and spiders and such.

  6. Seems like if I bug my family they will all acknowledge my existence.

Son, what movie is that from? Tanya will have one in the deep freeze waiting for you. We will fry it of course, you don't have to eat it raw.

  7. Gross. It looks like one bug is trying to crawl up the butt of another bug.
G - I've eaten fried crickets before... make sure you take the antenna and legs off first. They'll just get stuck on the way down.
